Project context

The challenge

In the fight against the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19, significant funds are mobilized across the planet to provide substantial assistance to the most vulnerable populations and medical personnel. Even if the African continent currently has only hundreds of deaths, forecasts are alarmist given the weak capacity of the continent's health systems. And this challenge requires significant material and financial resources that are a struggle to quickly bring together by public services and private organizations on African soil. And rather than waiting for a providential windfall or the usual help of other countries, we think that a general mobilization is necessary. This is why the #AfricaDiasporaFightsCoronavirus task force was born!

We, men, women, friends and sympathizers of the African diaspora are among those who believe that the diaspora can play a crucial role in the fight against this pandemic by supporting in a massive, direct and concerted manner the most fragile and most vulnerable and at risk populations  from the continent. It is the duty of the African diaspora to do its part.

The solution #AfricaDiasporaFightsCoronavirus

The objective of this initiative is to help finance the coordination and distribution of basic necessities (medical equipment, meals, medicines, etc.) to people affected by COVID-19 and health workers, and to support raising awareness among the most vulnerable populations.

How it works

Our collective wants to be a facilitating platform between the diaspora in the world and the African continent. In Africa, we identify the field needs, select initiatives, projects and local partners for a successful implementation. In parallel, we are mobilizing the African diaspora and carrying out fundraising with the Jamaafunding platform. And because traceability is key, we are committed to transparent communication throughout the project.

More than ever, Africa needs its Diaspora! Africa needs you!

About the project

The project #AfricaDiasporaFightsCoronavirus #Cameroon, in partnership with Cameroon Red Cross

We have chosen to start our action in Cameroon because it is one of the African countries most affected by the coronavirus pandemic according to the CSIS institute. According to observers, these figures seem to be underestimated. Several measures have been taken by the government to limit the spread of the virus, and they need our support to overcome this pandemic. Mobilization is essential to enable the #AfricaDiasporaFightsCoronavirus movement to make its contribution to help Cameroon overcome one of the greatest health challenges of modern times.

More than ever, Cameroon needs You! Be generous in your donations for a Cameroon protected from the worst!

The first beneficiary selected in Cameroon: Jamot Hospital in Yaoundé

Recognized for its pulmonology service, it is now welcoming more and more Covid-19 patients. It was within this establishment that the first Coronavirus patients were received in Cameroon. With more than 18 * confirmed coronavirus patients as of April 13, 2020, the hospital receives more than 10 suspected patients with the disease daily.

This already requires significant care, that of the sick and the protection of caregivers: around 15,000 masks for medical staff and the sick per month, 15,000 gowns and gloves, not counting medical equipment and treatments.

To find out more about the hospital, contact Pr. Eric Walter Pefura Yone, Pulmonologist

Our needs

And you?

If you can contribute and have the means to act, we hope you will donate today. No amount is too small. All donations (minus the 3.5% transaction fee) will be paid to partners (hospitals, private and public organizations) who are already in the field. We thank our partners Jaama and Remitly that waived their management fees.

We are closely monitoring this growing need and we are ready to continue supporting other organizations with your help. Jamot Hospital is only a first step because we aim to support at least 4 initiatives by implementing a fundraising in increments of € 5,000.

We thank you for your attention and and let's act together for:
An Africa aware of the dangers of coronavirus for the protection of all!
An Africa with the financial means to fight against the spread of the virus!
